Filing a provisional with the USPTO

  1. 1

    Create a USPTO.gov account

Sign up and complete identity verification to file as a registered user.

  2. 2

    Prepare your specification

Download your GetQuickPatent PDF. Fill every [bracketed] placeholder first.

  3. 3

    Start a new submission

In Patent Center choose New submission → Utility → Provisional.

  4. 4

    Enter application data

Title, inventor names and residences, correspondence address, entity status.

  5. 5

    Upload documents

Upload the specification and drawings as PDF, plus the cover sheet if not generated online.

  6. 6

    Pay and submit

Our assistant can do this in Patent Center for you: uploads the files and fills every form. You sign with your own electronic signature (/s/Your Name/), pay USPTO fees and save your filing receipt — you are now Patent Pending.

  7. 7

    Mark the 12-month deadline

File a non-provisional application within 12 months to keep your priority date.

This is an SI-generated draft of a Provisional Patent Application. It is not legal advice; GetQuickPatent is not a law firm and our assistants are not attorneys. With assisted filing, our assistant uploads your files and fills the USPTO Patent Center forms for you, but you sign with your own electronic signature and pay USPTO fees directly — we never sign for you. You remain fully responsible for the accuracy and final submission to the USPTO.
